This following seminar is designed for the absolute beginner who wants to learn the fundamentals of SQL language; with the end goal of having the student write from simple to complex queries with confidence. With the combination of lectures and demonstrations, the students will leave with a working knowledge of SQL fundamentals and how to manage databases. We will cover the following questions below:

What is SQL

  • SQL (Structured Query Language) or pronounced “Sequel” is the primary language responsible for managing data and data structures
  • It is a simple and yet powerful language that allows you to interact with a database
  • You will learn the four primary commands to manipulate data, and they are: select, insert, update and delete and much more

Why you should learn SQL?

  • To have the ability to translate raw data into information
  • Provide upper management with information to make sound business decisions
  • Be able to write queries that allow you to extract raw data and make sense of it

  • You will learn how to install and deploy SQL Server Express edition – the application for writing your queries
  • Navigate through the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) the primary tool to manipulate data
  • Understand Data Definition Language (DDL) statements that are used to define the database structure or schema such as, create, alter, drop, truncate, and comment
  • Data Manipulation Language (DML) statements that are used for managing data within schema objects. Such as, select, insert, update, delete
  • Data Control Language (DCL) statements such as, grant, revoke and much more

No, all documents and SQL scripts related to the seminar will be provided for you so that you can concentrate on the lecture and demonstrations rather than note taking. However, if you want to bring a laptop, you may but it is not required.
A continental breakfast will be served between 8:30 am and 9:00 am. For lunch there are surrounding restaurants in close area.
